The 100% Chrome-6 free plating process for interior trim
Taiyo (stand share with Elematec)

Visit Automotive Interiors Expo to see 100% Chrome-6-free plating on plastics from pretreatment to the final process. The technology maintains the performance specifications and reduces the environmental impact. It can also be applied to 2K and 3K mold products.

E-coat is a completely new technology with silica-based coat. It gives plastic parts a metal-effect surface.

E-coat with copper has a realistic, pure copper color. A copper-plated finish can be achieved using Taiyo’s semi-automatic line where the process is completed upon the Cu plating process. The resin plating has a three-layer structure of Cu-Ni-Cr, but here it is stopped at the very first layer of copper. A silica-based coating is then applied to enable corrosion resistance.

Bronze E-coat has a rich bronze color. Copper tin alloy is used instead of chrome plating to reproduce bronze and gold colors. A silica-based coating is applied to impart corrosion resistance.

Deep Blue, a clear blue tint silica-based coating, is applied to the chrome plating. Taiyo succeeded in keeping the coating thin enough to maintain the cool metallic feel and make the chrome visible through the top coat.

Maroon Black is a silica coating applied on the black chrome-s plating. On satin trivalent chromium, fingerprint smudges adhere to the surface easily and are very noticeable. By applying a silica-based top coat, fingerprints and the like are less likely to adhere and can be easily wiped clean.

Need texture? Using the laser process, a variety of fine designs can be etched onto the mold for injection molding and plating. By using a special plating process and Taiyo’s non-leveling copper, the design grains can be preserved as they are, without losing the intricacies of the etched grain designs.
