Recycled fibres
Wellman International Ltd - Stand A7040

Non-wovens and other polyester fibre materials have become very important for insulation and padding in cars. But since plastic pollution has become a big problem and petroleum is running out, the right thing to do is to use recycled materials. Wellman International is a leading producer of polyester staple fibres made from post-consumer recycled (PCR) bottles.

Every year it recycles 2.7 billion PET plastic bottles and converts them into 90,000 tonnes of high-quality polyester staple fibres. The company claims this saves about 200,000 tonnes of CO2 compared with virgin processes for manufacturing polyester. At Automotive Interiors Expo, Wellman will showcase its staple fibres, as well as a number of other fibre products aimed at the automotive industry, such as Breathair, a lightweight material perfect for seating.
