Environmentally friendly chrome coatings
IHI Hauzer Techno Coating BV - Stand A7421

Chrome electroplating of decorative parts has become highly problematic because of the impact on the environment and the health risks of hexavalent chromium. At Automotive Interiors Expo, visitors will be able to discover alternatives to give trim pieces the same glossy metal finish. Cromatipic from IHI Hauzer uses just two layers, a UV cured paint base layer and a physical vapour deposition (PVD) layer, to give plastic parts a resistant chrome look. When even more surface protection is required, a transparent plasma-assisted chemical vapour deposition (PACVD) layer can be added during the PVD step.

Cromatipic is under constant development and will be compatible with more and more substrate plastics in the future. With shiny and satin chrome finishes available and the possibility of a hydrophobic finish, it is suitable for interior and exterior parts such as door handles, dashboard parts, grilles, logos and more. And because the coating is flexible, it can be used on parts that need to be able to bend, too. Unlike electroplating, this coating can be removed very precisely using laser to create patterns on parts for backlighting.
