Imballaggi Protettivi - Booth A4250
To help automotive manufacturers to further reduce the kerb weight of their cars, Imballaggi Protettivi has developed the Bubble Guard Compact, a triple-layer extruded polypropylene sheet that is characterised by its honeycomb core.
IP-Tech, the automotive division of Imballaggi Protettivi, has been working on practical applications for the Bubble Guard Compact material, by using a technique to laminate the sheets with special fibres rather than glue. Some of the possible uses for the new material are as trunk load floors, decorative seat backs or structural seat backs.
Compared to a traditional metal seat structure, BG-Compact allows a weight reduction of 56% while also demonstrating excellent shock-absorbent properties and high compressive strength. The required tooling cost is also lower. These properties have led FCA to adopt the material for structural rear seat backs, and it has been installed so far in more than 1.5 million vehicles.
