Sustainable new solutions for plating on silver surfaces
Atotech Deutschland

Atotech will present two of its innovative products at Automotive Interiors Expo in Stuttgart: NEAP, a new adhesion promoter on silver surfaces of lead frames, and Argalin XL, a high-performance inorganic and chrome-6-free silver anti-tarnish.

Bernd Roelfs, global business development manager for semiconductor and functional electronic coatings at Atotech, says, “NEAP and Argalin XL are the result of our desire to continually innovate and exceed our customers’ needs. They perfectly complement our existing process range for superior pre- and post-treatments for the full range of plating chemicals, and are among our most sustainable solutions today.”

NEAP is a non-roughening adhesion promoter that is easy to implement and works well on spot silver (Ag) and ring Ag lead frames. Its reliability is better than that of rough copper in high thermal conditions and it helps to reduce operational costs at customer sites. NEAP also ensures excellent control of the epoxy bleed-out during the die-attach and provides no difficulties in deflashing after molding. The simple, environmentally friendly process is particularly well suited for lead frames with severe temperature and humidity requirements (MSL1 and beyond), especially for automotive parts.

Argalin XL is designed for the inorganic anti-tarnish of silver or copper surfaces of bus bars and connectors, especially for automotive powertrain applications, copper foils and Li batteries for e-vehicles. Compared with other electrolytic passivates, the process combines two very important requirements. The process is Cr(IV)-free and shows excellent anti-tarnish performance before and after high-temperature treatment. Furthermore, Argalin XL improves the adhesion between metals such as nickel and polymeric surfaces. It therefore meets and exceeds the requirements set by the automotive industry.
